POSITION TITLE: MakerSpace Mobile Device Instructor (CSJ)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Facilities Manager and Programs & Communications Manager

PURPOSE: To provide users of all NCPL branch with high quality library services in accordance with the policies and directions of the Board.

a) Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugees Protection Act2 and
b) Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
c) Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
d) Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

a) Experience —- Working knowledge in the functions of libraries, library services, practices, and procedures. Familiar with general library and office equipment.
b) Skills —- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, maintaining an effective working relationship with library users and staff. Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team. Good general knowledge

SCOPE: Assists with the development and implementation of MakerSpace Activity Centre and introduce new and/or improved ways to utilize the tools and equipment currently available. Provide training on all MakerSpace and Mobile Device tools and equipment and schedule workshops, training programs, manuals etc. in accordance with the library system policies and procedures.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Facilities and Operations Manager and Programs & Communications Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Often works in full public view with its intended interruptions. Work can be subject to deadlines. Location and hours have regularly scheduled hours at the Norfolk County Public Library. Schedule and location are subject to change.

IMPACT OF ERROR: Inadequate performance of duties would lessen library service, reflect poorly with Norfolk County patrons, have adverse effect on Canada Summer Jobs reporting as well as create unfavourable public relations, and poor staff morale.

CONTROL: The MakerSpace and Mobile Device Instructor functions under the Facilities & Operations Manager in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library system and with respect to the guidelines and standards as set by the Library Board. The MakerSpace and Mobile Device Instructor also functions under the Programs and Communications Manager as well as the Collection Development and Technology Manager to perform tasks as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: At the discretion of the Norfolk County Public Library Managers the MakerSpace and Mobile Device Instructor will perform any or all of the following duties in varying degrees:

– Assist with planning and implementation of training based programs on the current MakerSpace Activity Centre tools , equipment and programs.
– Prepare and or update manuals on all MakerSpace tools and equipment
– Research new MakerSpace tools and equipment based on current trends and needs
– Assist in the coordination and scheduling of workshops, training on various devices such as ipad, Daisy reader, scanner, android tablets, and how to download apps
– Prepare workshops on how to use the 3d printer, Mac, cricut/vinyl cutter, green screen, filming and recording equipment
– Assist with activities centered on alternative types of literacy such as science and technology, engineering and math
– Attend meetings as required
– Provide direction to patrons of all ages as required
– Report library problems and issues to the appropriate Manager.
– Performs related work as assigned by any Manager
– Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
