POSITION TITLE: Technical & Social Media Instructor (CSJ)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Facilities Manager and Manager of Collection Development & Technology

PURPOSE: To provide users of all NCPL branch with high quality library services in accordance with the policies and directions of the Board.

CANADA SUMMER JOBS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (Student)
a) Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugees Protection Act2 and
b) Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
c) Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
d) Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
a) Experience —- Working knowledge in the functions of libraries, library services, practices, and procedures. Familiar with general library and office equipment.
b) Skills —- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, maintaining an effective working relationship with library users and staff. Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team. Good general knowledge
c) Experience —- Working with video camera and applicable software and/or creating YouTube video clips.

SCOPE: Assists with the development and implementation of social media content. Research trending activities that are vital to the development and growth of the NCPL. Branding has become an important component to the promotion and growth of the NCPL. The student will continue promote these trends in accordance with the library system policies and procedures.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Facilities and Operations Manager and the Manager of Collection Development and Technology.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Often works in full public view with its intended interruptions. Work can be subject to deadlines. Location and hours have regularly scheduled hours at the Norfolk County Public Library. Schedule and location are subject to change.

IMPACT OF ERROR: Inadequate performance of duties would lessen library service, reflect poorly with Norfolk County patrons, have adverse effect on Canada Summer Jobs reporting as well as create unfavourable public relations, and poor staff morale.

CONTROL: The Technical and Social Media Instructor functions under the Facilities & Operations Manager in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library system and with respect to the guidelines and standards as set by the Library Board. The Technical and Social Media Instructor also functions under the Collection Development and Technology Manager to perform tasks as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: At the discretion of the Norfolk County Public Library Managers the Technical and Social Media Instructor or will perform any or all of the following duties in varying degrees:

– Report to Manager of Collection Development and Technology
– Continue to develop and expand the social media component
– Continue to develop branding component of the NCPL to promote growth of social media trends
– Assist with the development and updating of new and current “how to” manuals for all electronic devices and equipment
– Attend meetings as required
– Report library problems and issues to the appropriate Manager.
– Performs related work as assigned by any Manager
– Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
– Create a virtual tour of each NCPL Branch
– Create YouTube “How to” of library services
– Create YouTube “Commercials” of library services
