Norfolk County Public Library Celebrates Dolly Day with Movies and a Little Imagination

The Norfolk County Public Library (NCPL) is celebrating Dolly Day on Friday, September 25, 2026, with events honouring the legacy of Dolly Parton and her commitment to childhood literacy.

The date, 9/25, was chosen by the Dollywood Foundation as an homage to Dolly Parton’s iconic song “9 to 5.”

NCPL is an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that provides children from birth to age five with one free, high-quality book delivered to their home every month for five years. The program is made possible through sponsorships of $50 per child, per year.

Quotes

Julie Kent, NCPL CEO

“Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an incredible program that puts books directly into the hands of young children and helps families build a love of reading from an early age. It helps build a strong relationship with the next generation of readers with the Library. Dolly Day is a way for our community to celebrate Dolly’s legacy while helping us raise awareness and support for this important literacy program right here in Norfolk County.”

Jennifer Carrier, Community Engagement Coordinator

“Dolly Parton has shown the world that a love of books, music and community can make a lasting difference. We invite Norfolk County residents to join us on September 25, celebrate Dolly, discover what their Library Card can offer and help us re-establish the Imagination Library.”

Registration for the Norfolk County chapter is currently paused while NCPL works to secure additional funding. Existing funds are sufficient to continue supporting children who are currently registered, but additional donations are needed before registration can reopen.

Community members can help by making a donation to support the local chapter. Sponsoring one child costs $50 per year, or $250 to support a child for the full five years of the program.

Celebrate Dolly Day at your Library

NCPL will host formal Dolly Day events at three Branches, featuring a screening of the movie The Library That Dolly Built: Celebrating the People Who Made Dolly’s Dream Come True, available through NCPL’s digital resource Kanopy, a free movie streaming service for Library cardholders. Attendees can also enjoy cookies and purchase premade Dolly-themed buttons, with proceeds supporting the Norfolk County Chapter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Additional donations are also accepted.
