InterLibrary Loan

If you are interested in an item that we do not have, we can request to borrow it from another Ontario library on your behalf. Interlibrary Loans require an Interlibrary Loan account and a valid Norfolk County Public Library Resident card.

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Any borrowed book or item that comes from another library outside of the Norfolk County Public Library system is considered an interlibrary loan. Patrons must check the Norfolk County Public Library’s catalogue first to determine if the item is available from our collection, prior to making an interlibrary loan request to borrow from other libraries.

Are there any restrictions? (limitations? different heading?)

  • We are unable to request the following types of materials:
    • New books (published within 12 Months.)
    • Items already owned by NCPL.
    • Magazines, video games, non-traditional materials such a Maker Kits and digital library materials.
  • A limit of two (2) active requests per patron. Items remain active until a lending library marks an item as returned & complete.
  • Requests usually take approximately four to six weeks to fill.
  • We cannot guarantee fulfillment by a certain date.
  • Items borrowed through interlibrary loan cannot be renewed online. To renew your item, you must contact library staff Monday - Friday between 10 - 5 or email Interlibrary Loans.
    • We cannot guarantee a Lending Library will approve your renewal request.
  • Late fees still apply to Interlibrary Loan material ($1.00 per day.)
  • This service is only available to Norfolk County residents with a valid Resident or Home Service membership card.
